The Medical City for Military and Security Services (MCMSS) in Muscat, Oman is a Tertiary/Quaternary Care level city providing services to patients of different age groups in different specialties.

MCMSS is seeking to appoint Mental Health Nurse, who is well trained and highly motivated individual to develop his/her professional career within the MCMSS.

  • Psychiatric/Mental Health Unit The Mental Health Nurse will provide comprehensive mental health care to individuals, families, and communities. This includes the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with mental health disorders.
  • The role focuses on both inpatient and outpatient care, therapeutic communication, and crisis intervention, ensuring a holistic approach to patient well-being.
  • Patient Care: Assess and monitor patients’ mental health status through interviews, observations, and medical history reviews. Develop and implement individualised care plans in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team. Administer medication and monitor for side effects or efficacy. Provide therapeutic interventions, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) or other psychotherapeutic techniques. Conduct risk assessments for self-harm, suicide, or violence and develop crisis intervention strategies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss and plan patient care.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed, accurate, and confidential patient records, including treatment plans, medication logs, and progress notes. Adhere to legal and ethical guidelines in documenting patient information.
  • Education and Support: Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment plans, and coping strategies. Facilitate group therapy sessions and support groups for in-patients with mental health disorders.
  • Crisis Management: Respond to mental health crises, providing appropriate interventions, and support to stabilize patients. Participate in de-escalation techniques during psychiatric emergencies.
  • Quality Improvement: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in mental health nursing. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the psychiatric unit to enhance patient care.
  • Patient Safety: Ensure a safe environment for patients by following proper procedures, reporting hazards, and adhering to hospital safety protocols.
  • Qualifications: Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with a specialization at least diploma in Mental Health Nursing.
  • License/Certification: Valid nursing license in Oman. Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience working in a mental health setting preferred. Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in high-stress environments and manage mental health crises. Knowledge of psychotropic medications and their side effects.
  • Proficiency in therapeutic techniques such as CBT or DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy). Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Working Conditions: Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Exposure to emotionally challenging situations involving patients in psychiatric crises. Work may be in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

MCMSS is seeking to appoint Diabetes Nurse Educator, who is well trained and highly motivated individual to develop his/her professional career within the MCMSS.

Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required (Postgraduate certificate in diabetes education and in nutrition is desirable)
  • Diabetes Educator certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with diabetic patients.
  • Knowledgeable about diabetes education resources and technology.
  • Know how to deal with continuous blood glucose monitoring and pumps.
  • Current and clean medical license to practice in country of origin/ country of practice

Skills:

  • Proficiency in computer, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Clinical Expertise:
    • In-depth knowledge of diabetes management, including types of diabetes, treatment options, and the latest research.
  • Patient Education:
    • Strong ability to educate patients and families about diabetes management, including diet, exercise, medication adherence, and blood glucose monitoring.
  • Assessment and Monitoring:
    • Skills in performing comprehensive assessments of patients’ diabetes management and identifying complications.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • The diabetes nurse educator will work full time with the diabetes multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide education and guidance to patients living with diabetes, teaching them about self-care practices, and offering ongoing support.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop personalized comprehensive treatment plans and create educational materials and resources.
  • Assist and educate patients about blood glucose monitoring, carbohydrate counting, meal planning, techniques of self-monitoring and injection, exercise and lifestyle modification.
  • Monitor patients’ glycemic control including continuous glucose monitoring, evaluate treatment plans, and provide recommendations for adjustments, including insulin pump usage, in collaboration with the medical team.
  • Provide ongoing support and counseling to patients and families, addressing their concerns, answering questions, and offering guidance on managing diabetes-related challenges.
  • Manage a dedicated WhatsApp contact number to offer support for patients with diabetes during working hours and remain accessible outside of regular working hours.
  • Coordinate and conduct diabetes support group meetings.
  • Coordinate and participate in community outreach activities to promote diabetes awareness and education, including classes in schools and other facilities.
  • Stay up to date with the latest diabetes research and treatment options.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and contribute to the advancement of the quality diabetes care provided by the medical city.
