Job Summary
Provides nursing care in an effective and safe manner to a select group of patients and families, carries out established nursing regimes, and plans of nursing care under the guidance of a preceptor or other designated RN.
The scope of responsibility, duties and accountability at the facility department and position levels including knowledge and practice of the clinical/technical skills necessary to the position consistent with the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP) Nursing/Midwifery Competency Framework and Scope of Practice. Nursing job duties are to meet the Joint Commission International and the Plan of Care Policy, and other regulatory requirements.

Job purpose:
As an autonomous practitioner and key multi-disciplinary team member, they will provide holistic assessment and goal orientated treatment through a patient centered model of care. Utilizing a broad range of assessment, treatment techniques, they will effectively promote health and well-being and maximize functional recovery, using both a restorative and preventative approach to patient care.
Occupational Therapy services across the following key Rehabilitation service areas:
• Orthopedics and Rheumatology
• Cardiac Rehabilitation
• Musculoskeletal and Sports Injuries
• Pain Management
• Women’s Health
• Neurology and Neurosurgery
• Pediatrics
Responsibilities:
- Provides critically reasoned and holistic, Occupational Therapy assessments, for inpatients and outpatients, referred with varying complexities of musculoskeletal, orthopedic, neurological, or cardio-respiratory presentations, encompassing physical, psychological, cognitive, emotional, and social aspects.
- Provides goal orientated, evidence based and clinically reasoned treatment plans alone and in conjunction with an integrated team of physicians, nurses, and other Allied Health Professionals.
- Provides effective and safe patient (and family) education to assist in management of and/or recovery from, injury, illness, or disease.
- Identifies, recommends, prescribes, and implements suitable assistive devices (in accordance with relevant policy) in the recovery from surgery, illness or to assist with management of chronic conditions, such as wheelchairs, walking aids and aids for activities of daily living.
- Provides clinical expertise in the provision of custom made, thermoplastic splints, for the purposes of managing tone and spasticity and/or facilitating or limiting movement in accordance with a designated treatment protocol or care plan.
- Takes an active role in In-Service training, facilitating the training and development of non-therapy staff and sharing knowledge and skills where appropriate.
- Manages own time and caseload with an awareness of limitation of the Therapy services and a knowledge of specialist facilities and appropriate referral.
- Demonstrates therapeutic moving and handling skills in the assessment and treatment of clients and gives specialist advice to staff, client and family on the correct manual handling techniques, undertaking highly specialized manual handling risk assessments as appropriate.
- Adheres to all departmental and facility wide policies, procedures, risk assessments and processes in the interests of maintaining a safe and effective work environment and promoting the highest quality patient care experience.

Education requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or three-year (3) Diploma in Occupational Therapy or entry level Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy, from an accredited Occupational Therapy program by World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).
- Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree, Diploma or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from a non-WFOT accredited program will be required to have 5 years post qualification experience as an Occupational Therapist.
- Current, valid, home country license to practice Occupational Therapy (Overseas candidates)/ Current, valid, license to practice Occupational Therapy in Qatar.
Experience:
- Overseas candidates with WFOT accredited qualifications: two years (2) of experience as an Occupational Therapist.
- Overseas candidates with non-WFOT accredited qualifications: five years (5) of experience as an Occupational Therapist.
